Evan Ubene was emotionally conflicted as he crossed the finish line in first place for midget boys at the SWOSSAA cross-country championships held Wednesday at Malden Park.
The Grade nine runner from Belle River and Riverside's Lyjah Dunn were locked in a neck-and-neck battle for individual honours as the five-kilometre race was drawing to a close when calamity struck.
